Birds Feeding
Tracey took photos of sparrows feeding from the pinecone bird feeder because Dylan hadn't seen them doing it. The photos are lovely. I have put them up in the classroom. She tells me the wax eyes are beginning to feed as well.

Nepal
Tim Dalley spoke to Rooms 10 and 11 yesterday about what he learnt about Nepal by staying there for three months. I learnt that there is jungle in Nepal, not just mountains. The children were really engaged in listening to him speaking.

The Circulatory System
We are learning about how important the heart is for pumping blood around the body. One of our activities was to write an acrostic poem. We worked together to write these two.
Heart pumps the blood
Energy keeps our heart going
Arteries carry good blood
Round the body
To keep us alive.
Heart pumps the blood
Everywhere
Around the body
Respect your heart
To stay healthy.

Bird Feeders
Mrs Clementson is working on a technology unit based on birds. She had a visitor from Forest and Birds come to talk to the students on Thursday morning and these are some of their reports and photos.
Thursday morning we made bird feeders. We made them with an open pinecone, peanut butter, a butter knife and we had seeds and fat. We've hung mine in the tree at home but I haven't seen any birds eat yet.

The Bird Expert
Birds don't have much food in Winter. The birds are dying so we made bird feeders so they can survive. We made them out of pinecones. Last night we went out to Carters Beach and we pulled them off the tree.
Lachie
This morning we made bird feeders. It was fun because we got to see real birds. There names were this - Blackbirds, Sparrows, Seagulls, Thrushes.

This morning we had a bird expert in our classroom. He was teaching us about different types of birds. The birds like flames at our school. In the winter they don't have much food to eat - that's why we made bird feeders.
Millie
Bird Expert
Today we made bird feeders. We had fun. It was a mess but we cleaned it up. Then a fantail came in when we were colouring in because he smelt the peanut butter because the bird feeders had peanut butter on. It had seeds and fat. We had to take it home. There were no hanging places to hang them up at school.

Gerald took us for a walk to show us about birds. Mrs Clementson took lots of lovely photos. We had a lovely walk. After the walk we made some bird feeders. I got tired making bird feeders.

Today I got to see a bird expert. His name is Gerald. He told us information about birds. We asked Gerald questions. then we went for a walk so we could see winter birds live. After the walk we made bird feeders because birds don't have much food.

Birds have not much food in winter. The birds die so it's sad. Today we made bird feeders. It was fun. We had a special visitor - a bird expert.
Trinity
This morning we had an expert about birds. He explained about what trees belong to the animals who lay eggs. It is a bird. In winter they don't have much food to eat. In spring they have lots of food. When he left Te Hana was holding a box with chocolate inside.
we were going to make some bird feeders. We needed a pinecone. We spread it with peanut butter and then we went over to the table. We put some of this sticky stuff on, then we put birdseed on.
Amber
Today we made bird feeders. My hands got covered in peanut butter and seeds. Mine was big. I had fun. When we were done a bird came in. We made bird feeders because it is nearly winter and there is not much food for the birds.

Using whiteboards
There are whiteboards for all students to use in the classroom and they are used daily for numeracy, handwriting, spelling and other areas. I took these photos when we were practicing writing numerals correctly. Excuse my finger!
Basic Needs
We have been talking about what our basic needs are, particularly in a disaster. the students worked in groups to discuss and record their ideas. All groups knew we needed food, water and air. Some of the groups worked out we needed clothing for warmth and shelter. this also relates to what is happening in Nepal at present and in Vanuatu.

Writing about holidays and ANZAC
Holidays
In the holidays I went to the dentist to get a filling. There was heaps of tools. One of the tools was caled the tooth tickler. The other tools were called the grumpy-grinder and the football. I got a sticker and a bumblebee necklace. When they were done I got some tasty water. It tasted like mints. I had fun!

ANZACS
On the weekend I went to the parade with my family. I had fun. My dad was in the parade because he's a fireman. We had to sing the National Anthem. We went to the Gates of Remembrance. I saw Mrs Rodger. I lay my poppy near the Gates of Remembrance.
Dylan
A couple of days ago I went to the Anzac parade. I saw Connor marching down the road. I had fun. I got tired in the middle of a speech. Some of the people put down some wreaths.
Jessica
We need to remember people who went to war because they fought for our freedom. My mum's great, great, great granddad Willer went to war. Me and Millie have gt two other granddads and uncles who survived the war.
Lenka
On Saturday me and my dad went to theAnzac parade. There were lots of people. I saw Mr A. He was marching down the road and he had a black jacket with poppies and medals.
Lachie
On Anzac Day there was a parade at Victoria Square near the Gates of Remembrance. There was lots of speeches. There was lots of people. We were there because we needed to remember the people who died lots of years ago. It was sad but I had lots of fun too. It was time to go. I did not want to go home. I felt sad because I liked the parade.
Amber
My great-granddad went to war. He was a prisoner of war but he made friends with one of them. The guard helped him to escape. But now he has got a lump on his body and it is cancer so he is very sick - just like my dog Kupe.
