A Monster in my Toilet

Room 11 showed their monster pictures in assembly and said the monster poem that inspired them. Here it is.
There's a monster in my toilet,
All yellow fangs and claws.
It bangs against the lid,
And when you flush it roars.

I saw it only last night,
It was swimming like a shark.
during daytime it is sleeping,
But it comes out when it is dark.

My dad says I am joking,
My mum thinks it's a prank.
But it goes splashing in the bowl,
And hides in the water tank.

Once I tried to catch it,
I used a piece of cheese.
I thought it would be simple,
But it escaped with graceful ease.

I think I'll leave it in there,
Yes I think I'll let it be.
But in future I'll be careful,
Especially when I wee!

Not sure who the poet is.

Safety Around Electricity

Today we went to the hall to learn about staying safe around electricity. We watched a video about Danger Rangers. In the video, Mr Negative threatened to hurt them by zapping them if they didn't follow nine rules. at the end , the characters learned the rules and followed them.

Levi got dressed up in safety gear like a linesman.

The nine rules are:
1.Don't put water near electricity.
2. Don't touch transformers.
3.If there are lines down on your car after an accident, stay in the car.
4. Unplug the toaster before getting stuck toast out.
5. Don't touch a power cord if it's cut or damaged.
6. If a power line is downed by a tree, call 111.
7. Don't overload electrical sockets with plugs.
8. Don't fly a kite near power lines.
9.Don't throw rocks at the insulators on the power lines.

We also learned that 70 per cent of our bodies is made up of water.
Our thoughts about electricity are that it is helpful but can be dangerous if we don't follow the rules!

Superkids

On Friday morning the whole school got to go to the NBS Theatre to watch the dress rehearsal of the school production Superkids. We bussed down and then were treated to a great show about how to deal with bullies. The students were entranced and and I loved listening to the comments being made around me.
At the end Harry gave it a ten and two thumbs up!

Camp Stories

The students were asked to choose a moment from camp that they would like to write about. Here are a few examples of what they chose.

The Seal Colony
On camp my class went for a long walk and then....
My class went to the seal colony! It was exciting! The seal pups were diving. I think they were trying to catch fish. There were big, lazy seals sleeping on rocks.
I am glad that we didn't have to walk back.

The Eels
My favourite part was going to feed the eels. Room 11walked down the road. It was dark. We had meat for the eels. We had to wait a little while. Eels have a really good sense of smell.

The Walk
On camp Room 11 went on a big walk to see the seal colony. On that walk heaps of people slid down the hill. We got to see the metal in the glass. The metal looked like a clock. after we all got lunch. I was hungry. I had fun and the sun was shining bright.

The Slippery Slide
On camp I went on the slippery slide and the bouncy castle with my friends. On the slippery slide, I was being a racing car and I crashed into Kalei on the slippery slide. I spun-out! It was fun cause I spun-out four times. We got to go on the slippery slide because it was Rihanna's birthday so her mum put the slippery slide up.

Feeding the Eels
At night time we walked to the pond and we saw something lurking in the shadows. It was eels! We were worried. It was terrifying. We threw some meat in and the eels came. It took a while but it was worth it. I was scared at first.

Cooking our Sausages

The wind stayed away when we were making our fires ready for cooking our dinner. some of the fires looked very professional. They all cooked our sausages, hash browns and marshmallows. The children thought it was great and ate heartily.

Thank you to the families who were able to come out and join us.

Rihanna,s Birthday Treat

We were very lucky because Rihanna's birthday was on Tuesday so her parents arranged for the bouncy castle and slippery slide. the children had a great time.

Tauranga Bay

Lunch was a welcome relief to hunger pangs. Then we went down to the beach. What a great time was had damming the creek, getting wet and sandy! It was lovely to see the way the children worked together, changing groups, talking and having fun.

The Seal Colony

There was great excitement when we got to the seals, especially when there were some pups swimming in the pool. As our eyes adjusted we saw more and more pups sunning on the rocks. They are well camouflaged!
